The annual Roasters Choice Competition is held in conjunction with the SCAA Event and is designed to highlight the art and craft of coffee roasting. To compete in the challenge, members of the Roasters Guild must submit roasted coffee that they have chosen to represent and highlight their roasting skills. Selected in advance of the Exposition, the top 6 coffees will be showcased at the annual event. The roasted coffee that earns the top score, as determined by a panel of judges prior to The Event, will be named the winner of the 2014 Roasters Choice competition. The coffees will then be served to Exposition attendees at the brew bar in the US Coffee Championships Arena. This competition is open only to current Roasters Guild members.

All submissions will be vetted on Thursday prior to The Event by a panel of judges. The Top 6 coffees will be served throughout weekend; the top scoring coffee will be announced as the 2014 Roasters Choice Champion in the Awards Ceremony.


• Winner announced at Awards Ceremony on US Coffee Championships stage and presented with a trophy
• Winner will receive an all inclusive trip to Roasters Guild Retreat sponsored by Utz Certified
• Profiles of the top 6 roasters will be featured on LCD screens in the Roasters Choice area
• Forum post with information about the coffees for top 6 roasters, and recognition on The Event website and US Coffee Championships website for the winner of the competition.


1. Submit your registration form and pay submission fee of $50 by April 18th

• You must be a Roasters Guild Member in good standing to participate in the 2014 Roasters Choice competition.
• There are only 30 spots available for this competition, so please register early to ensure your chance to compete for the title as the winner of the 2014 Roasters Guild Roasters Choice Competition.
• All competitors must be present at the Event to receive their award, but are also encouraged to be on hand to serve their coffees over the course of the Event.

2. Fill out your Competitor Information Form

• The link to this form will be in your registration confirmation email after you make your payment. Your registration is not complete until you fill out this form.

3. Roast (25 lbs) of a single origin coffee

• Roast Date should be between April 14-18, 2014.
• Roasts may be packaged in any type of 1-2 lb bag.

4. Get your coffee to The Event!

• Address and shipping instructions will be listed in your registration confirmation email. If you ship the coffee to The Event, please make sure to request a confirmation of delivery. If you do not receive this information, please email Christopher Schooley.
• Print out the email confirmation that you will receive upon submitting your competitor information form and include this inside the package. This paperwork should include your name, cell phone number, email address and RG member number. If this is not included we will not be able to identify the submission.


• The six (6) top scoring coffees will be brewed on-site using Curtis Gold Cup Single Cup Brewer as the brew method to be served to Event attendees
• It will be assumed that all submitted coffees were roasted on the recommended dates and that no blending of the coffees took place.
• Those coffees not selected for the competition will be donated to charitable organizations in the Seattle area.
• Results will be announced on Sunday in The US Coffee Championships Arena.|
